Once the site of the historic Brunton & Sons Boatyard, this land has been transformed into a boutique hotel that captures the essence of Fort Kochi. What was once a bustling shipyard is now a sanctuary where history and hospitality converge. The hotel reflects the layered influences of Portuguese, Dutch, and British cultures, blending seamlessly with its colonial-era surroundings and the legacy of Kerala’s pepper trade, once valued as highly as gold. Brunton Boatyard is a five-star retreat whose interiors echo the grandeur of a mercantile age. High ceilings, slow-turning fans, and an eclectic collection of artifacts and curios evoke the pomp and glamour of colonial times. Guests are immersed in this atmosphere as they explore Fort Kochi, where traces of its proud past remain in architecture and tradition. Though little of the original fort survives, its spirit endures, woven into the hotel’s character and the city’s timeless charm.

Rainwater

Harvesting the rain: Water is a precious resource and a scarce one too. We take pains to use it judiciously, conserving whatever we can. The rains that come pouring down upon us in the monsoon season provide us an opportunity to collect and store some of this in underground tanks, where they are later treated and used for a variety of purposes that include washing, cooking and drinking. This helps to bring down our net use of subterranean water, easing the pressure on the environment by reducing our need.

Solar

Hailing the sun: Our water is heated using solar photovoltaics mounted on our hotel roofs. It helps us save energy while reducing our carbon footprints. So the next time you enjoy a hot soak or shower watching the boats sail by from your bathroom windows, give thanks to the Sun.

Varied Cuisines: Our integration with the communities where we are located and their cultures has bred in us a unique sense of culinary imagination; one that draws inspiration from the age-old and singular recipes of the Jewish, Anglo Indian, Gujarati and Christian communities of Fort Kochi and its environs. If you are a history buff, particularly interested in the history of food, you can get to sample some distinctive dishes at the History Restaurant in Brunton Boatyard.

A book of history: Brunton Boatyard is a veritable history book. The art and artifacts on display in its interiors, its eclectic cuisine and varied culinary styles along with the heritage language of its architecture all reference Fort Kochi's colonial past.

Pure

Drink pure bottled rainwater: Born out of our undying zeal to reduce waste, we serve treated rainwater in glass bottles for our guests. This single act helps us displace around 15,000 units of plastic water bottles that would have otherwise entered our waste stream. It also enables us to serve water that is both pure and natural.
